Reliance World launches Robotics camp for school students in association with IIT-incubated Company in Bangalore
Reliance World, in association with robo.in, a division of ThinkLABS founded by IIT Bombay alumni, announces the launch of ROBOCAMP™—a summer camp that aims to introduce school students in classes IV-XII to the wonderful world of Robotics. This unique camp launches first in Bengaluru on April 12th, followed by launches in 25 other cities in India between April 12th and July 3rd, 2010. Students can enrol for ROBOCAMPTM in any of the Reliance World stores in 26 cities.
ROBOCAMPTM aims to give students in India an opportunity to get introduced to Robotics technology which is poised to bring about radical changes in many disciplines, including Manufacturing, Surgery, Services, Nuclear Technology, Research, Artificial Intelligence, Aviation, etc. The camp intends to teach students the principles of Science and Mathematics through Robotics, and make learning fun-filled and interactive. Robotics allows young minds to develop invaluable skills such as problem-solving, logical reasoning, critical thinking and creativity—skills highly-desirable for children who will succeed in the future.
Commenting on this initiative, Mr. Sunil Buch, EVP and Head of Marketing & Broadband Group, Reliance Webstore Limited, said, “Reliance World has always leveraged technology and reach to bring innovative services to virtually every neighbourhood of the country. With ROBOCAMPTM, we wish to spark an interest in Robotics among students at an early stage—in big cities as well as small towns--and equip them to take up this discipline in later years.”
Mr. Gagan Goyal, founder of Robo.in and an alumnus of IIT, Mumbai said, “ROBOCAMPTM has been designed keeping the academic curricula in mind. Besides introducing participants to Robotics, the camp will elucidate many principles of Science and Mathematics through interesting demonstrations and hands-on robot building sessions. By partnering with Reliance World, we are able to take ROBOCAMPTM to 26 Indian cities at one go and offer participants the well-equipped and comfortable environs of Reliance World for learning.”
Spread over 6 days and certified by the Indian Innovators Association (IIA), ROBOCAMP™ provides hands-on exposure to robot programming using hardware and software. Participants would spend two hours every day in the cool and comfortable environs of Reliance World learning how to build and program robots using sophisticated robotic kits. Depending on the type of program they choose, at the end of the camp, the children would be able to take home the robot they built.
Furthermore, participants of ROBOCAMP™ would also be eligible to enter the National Robotics Competition (TRICKS) to be held at IIT Bombay. The champion will win a trip to NASA.
ROBOCAMP™ is being launched in over 80 Reliance World stores across India. In Bengaluru, ROBOCAMP™ would be conducted in Reliance World stores located in Brigade Road and Kormangala in the first phase, starting April 12th, 2010.
Each batch comprises not more than 10 students and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested students are advised to visit Reliance World and register for ROBOCAMP™ at the earliest.
